Samsung is currently taking pre-orders for Black and White variants. Perhaps, to lure customers to pre-book without knowing the actual price, Samsung is offering 15% cashback for Citibank credit card holders while paying the remaining amount. Some other online stores are also taking pre-orders but the specifications on these sites read Snapdragon 801 CPU, which is not a part of the Indian variant. Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 proclaim they are “Powered by Android”

powered by android branding

When you buy the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8 next month, the first new thing you will notice is the “Powered by Android” phrase on the boot screen. According to Geek.com, this feature is mandated by Google.

Android is today the world’s most popular mobile operating system today. This a significant move by Google to establish Android. Google wants everyone to know that the Galaxy S5, the One M8 and perhaps future (Android) smartphones could be possible because of Android.

On the new Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8, the “Powered by Android” phrase can be seen beneath the company’s logo when the devices are booted up. “Android” in the phrase is written in a classic font that was last seen on the Original Android smartphone, the HTC G1.

Google Play services 4.3 released – Analytics and Address APIs added

google play services 4.3

Google has updated the Google Play Services to v4.3.

The v4.3 brings Google Analytics API, Tag Manager, and the Address API as new members. While the Game Gifts, Drive and Address APIs have been updated.

Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager

Developers will now be able to get detailed statistics on how your app is bing used by your users. These details will let you know the most used functionality of your app.

With the Tag Manager, you can now change the characteristics of your app on-the-fly without requiring for an update to be pushed from Google Play.

Google Play Games services Update

Game Gifts will allow players to send virtual in-game requests to anyone in their Google Plus circles or through player search. The user can also request a benefit or item.

Drive API

The 4.3 release adds three important features to the Drive API :

1. Pinning – Pinning will let you pin files that should be kept up to date locally, ensuring that it is available when the user is offline. It is useful for users with limited or no connectivity.

2. App Folders – An app often needs to create files which are not visible to the user, for example to store temporary files in a photo editor. This can now be done using App Folders, a feature is analogous to Application Data Folders in the Google Drive API

3. Change Notifications – You can now register a callback to receive notifications when a file or folder is changed. This mean you no longer need to query Drive continuously to check if the data has changed, just put a change notification on it

In addition to the above, you also get ability to access a number of new metadata fields.

Address API

With Address API, you can request access to addresses to fill out a delivery address form. For the convenience of the user, kicker has been introduced. The user needs to only select the address and the entire form will be filled.

The SDK for the new APIs will be available for download after the global rollout is complete.
